One of the most challenging steps of publishing a book is designing the cover. Of course, you want the book cover to catch the eye of the passerby or online shopper, but you also want to deliver a message of what the title and contents portray. In the beginning of the publishing process, Warrior Through Grace started with a strong and fierce picture of a male warrior, covered in armor, with a bloody battle occurring in the background. Something just didn’t look right and didn’t convey the message in my book. Sure, the battles of my life were fierce, but I was not a man and I didn’t leave a bloody trail behind me. At least, I hope not! My publisher then asked me to consider some female warriors. From the selection they gave me, there were a variety of frightening women dressed in black, ladies with shaved heads or a mohawk, and then one that stood alone as peaceful and accomplished. The one currently on the cover of Warrior Through Grace was no doubt the one! First of all, she looks like my middle daughter – strong, courageous, and humble. She is clothed in her armor, surrounded by the spirit of God (blue cloud), and praying for guidance and God’s will to help her fight, or possibly praising God for the battle she just went through. The picture spoke to me because in all my trials and tests, when I submitted to God and gave Him the reigns to my life, that’s when I found peace. The warrior is also bowing her head, which says the honor is given to God for His work in her. Most importantly, she is clothed in the Armor of God with her sword of the Spirit, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, and probably her helmet of salvation lying on the ground next to her feet.
I hope my readers understand the concept of spiritual warfare, or at least begin to understand it after reading Warrior Through Grace. We are engaged in a dark war with the spirits of the heavenly realms who are seeking to destroy marriages, families, relationships, and connections with God. They know your weak points and they know when to attack. As Warriors in this battle of life, we must be aware of their attacks and know to seek God first when struggles come. Unite in your church, do not divide. Love each other, do not hate. Do not let misunderstanding or lack of communication destroy your peace. Stand firm against the Devil’s schemes and allow God to guide you through adversity. Show Grace to others around you and be a Warrior for God.
